Summary: Clinical services for tinnitus have expanded greatly since the "masking" method was introduced in the 1970s, but no one treatment method has proven any more effective than any other. This on demand webinar will explain Tinnitus Stepped-Care, a framework for providing tinnitus clinical services. The framework suggests guiding principles that are essential in each of six progressive steps of tinnitus clinical care rather than promoting specific procedures for assessment and treatment.

Summary: Many clinicians feel ill-equipped to provide management services to aging adults who experience both hearing loss and bothersome tinnitus. This course describes strategies for evaluating and managing tinnitus in older patients to improve their quality of life.

New opportunities for virtual sessions allow a level of home involvement and support previously made difficult by time and logistical constraints. Summary: SLPs often work with individuals in palliative care to improve their functional abilities related to dysphagia as well as communication, but the SLP’s role in end-of-life processes is more challenging to define. This session explores the unique and rewarding role of the SLP in palliative care and end-of-life processes and describes how SLPs can provide support for swallowing and communication across the continuum of care and with a variety of populations.

Summary: There is a high prevalence of brain injury among youth and adults in the criminal justice system. The cognitive-communication impairments associated with brain injury can be a risk factor for both justice involvement and recidivism as well as barrier to successful community reintegration. This session focuses on the emerging role of SLPs with this underserved population, which may include assessment and intervention but may also include advocacy as well as training and education of front-line staff and justice professionals.
