Summary: This webinar will review the current state of hearing loss and hearing health care among individuals living with dementia, with an emphasis on addressing existing care disparities. Summary: Motor speech disorders occur secondary to a wide variety of progressive neurological disorders. This course discusses strategies for the speaker, listener, and environment that clinicians can consider for managing progressive motor speech disorders. Presenters discuss management strategies in the context of concomitant decline of cognitive-linguistic and motoric function from neurodegenerative processes.

Summary: This journal self-study course is composed of papers from the 7th Aging and Speech Communication Conference (April 2019). The articles cover a range of topics about speech processing in normal aging, including changes in auditory pathways and cortical structures in older adults with and without hearing loss; the relationship between cognitive skills and hearing performance in older adults; speech perception of older and younger adults when certain linguistic factors are manipulated; and age-related effects of processing accented speech in native and non-native speakers.

Summary: This session reviews the emerging evidence of neurological manifestations of COVID-19 and identifies how SLPs can use their unique position to maximize patient outcomes-whether as a member of an interdisciplinary team or as a solo provider. The session strives to increase clinicians' confidence in their abilities to: identify common cognitive-communication symptoms for patients who have recovered from COVID-19, and evaluate and treat with an individualized, patient-centered approach.

Summary: This course features moderated discussions among a panel of clinicians who collectively provide cochlear implant auditory rehabilitation (AR) to patients of all ages. Topics and discussions demonstrate the need to expand and differentiate intervention approaches based on the unique needs of individual patients with cochlear implants. Summary: This journal self-study course examines remote treatment for aphasia, a topic that several researchers explored at the 51st Clinical Aphasiology Conference (CAC) in North Carolina. Articles examine the effectiveness of telepractice delivery of three types of aphasia treatment: conversation group treatment, Combined Aphasia and Apraxia of Speech Treatment, and Sound Production Treatment. The articles compare outcomes of the treatments when administered remotely vs. in-person.

Summary: This session—a recorded session from ASHA’s 2020 Schools Connect conference—focuses on the continued rehabilitation of students with brain injuries through the art of successful transition into the school setting. The speaker addresses how accurate assessment leads to the establishment and implementation of successful intervention plans that include educationally relevant goals. This session is designed to accompany the 2020 Health Care Connect online conference session Initial Assessment and Transition Planning for Youth With Brain Injury. Together, the two sessions address provision of services for the same students across medical and school settings.
