Use of Simulation and ChatGPT in Communication Sciences and Disorders Programs (S10102954)
This SIG 10 activity explores the use of simulation and ChatGPT in communication sciences and disorders programs. The first article focuses on the importance of debriefing as a requirement during simulated clinical experiences, which enhances student learning. Current best-practice for simulations and debriefing models utilized in related disciplines are discussed. The second article describes students’ self-efficacy ratings for aphasia assessment and treatment after participation in a simulated aphasia escape room. The final article addresses the use of ChatGPT to teach plain language writing to graduate students in communication sciences and disorders. Authors describe how ChatGPT could be utilized for clinical report writing, answering questions, creating content, providing interactive writing assistance, and demonstrating language simplicity. Navigating potential challenges, ethical considerations, and specific recommendations for incorporating ChatGPT into curriculum are addressed.
